a Tribute to Loronix and Zecalouro -
Various Artists

It must have been somewhere early 2006, a close friend introduced
Loronix to me, the first music-blog I learned about. I was sold right away,
when I found out how it worked blogging took over a part of my life.
Every morning I browsed through a load of blogs and always started
with Loronix. What would Zecalouro have for us today ? Any samba ?
I got totally hooked. When I visited relatives in Rio de Janeiro in februari
2007, I could not resist to cantact Zecalouro. On tuesday februari 27th
we went on a small city trip. I picked him up at his home and we went
to some of the recordshops he used to frequent and had lunch in a 'Comida
a Kilo' restaurant. We talked a lot about music and had a wonderful afternoon.

Zecalouro had really infected me with this blog-virus, no serious, he inspired
me so much, in may 2008 I could not keep it anymore, the birth of the
Global Groove was a fact and I still hold Zeca responsible for that..

As many of you know, Loronix is off the air for more then 2 years now.
Untill today nobody knew why and what happened to Zecalouro. I had also
failed to get in contact and did not know what was going on. Last week I
had the idea of making this tribute and gave it another try to reach him.
Due to health matters Zecalouro was forced to stop his once so popular
music-blog. I had a brief contact with him. Fortunately he is doing much
better now, working as a musician as he once did before.
His life, his blog, his decision..

I dedicate this compilation, fully inspired by himself, to Zecalouro and Loronix !
I respect your choice in life Zeca, however, Loronix was of such richness in
Brazillian music, it will be sadly missed till eternity.. que saudade..

Thank-you for your musical offerings and thank-you as well for mentioning loronix. That blog was a major part of my life for the time it existed. I visited it faithfully every day, and through it made so many wonderful, wonderful discoveries. I miss it. Very much.

Obrigado for reminding us to "Zecalouro" and his wonderful blog.

As further evidence of its relevance (and quality) in the many blogs about Brazilian music a new blog: http://orfaosdoloronix.wordpress.com/
tries to keep the flame alive.

Tristeza não tem fim, felicidade sim...

Cheers!

a well deserved and suited homage! I kept Loronix in my bookmarks for a long time, hoping it would be updated someday. I'm glad Zecalouro is doing fine, I guess he would be proud to know his blog had such a good impact on so many people.
gratidão!

Loronix was such a great blog, one of the first I discovered back in 2006, truly miss it. Glad to here he's alive, I was always afraid he had died!

It almost makes me shed a tear. Though it was not the first, Loronix was one of the blogs I discovered in my early days of searching music blogs, and it struck me as much more "professional" and friendly than a lot of blogs out there. It was one of the inspirations for me to have my own blog. It is a pleasure to see one of my favourite blogs of today paying homage to one of my favourite blogs of yesterday.

Thank you!

For you it was Loronix, for me it was GG. Thank you.
All the best for Zeca.

Thank you very much for bringing good news about Zeca, Moos.
And thanks also for the nice selection!

Yes, I have also missed Zecalouro. He opened my eyes and ears. I owe him a lot. Thanks for bringing us news that he is again in good health.

Moos.

Conta outra....

Luiz

Oi Luiz, parece que você não me acredita. Não faz mal. Talvez que o Zeca quer mandar uma reacêão. Até ele responde eu vou te mostrar o e-mail que ele me mandou;

moos,

I got broke and very sick with diabetes. I could not make it anymore. I had to get a 9 to 5 job. And now I am in love with my work. I decided to leave the website as it is. I know it was stupid but I had to make a very fast move. My apologies. Now I am fine and working with music again, as musician, just like the very first beginning of my life.

Cheers.

Acredita quem quiser.

Luiz,
I am gonna write to you in English. Do you really think I would make up a story like this ? I consider Zecalouro a friend and would never tell a lie about him or anybody else. I think it's very rude of you to doubt my words and offend Zecalouro like you do questioning his own words. So Luiz, 'tolice'? better take a good look at yourself..
No matter if Zecalouro will send prove of his being okay, decent people don't need it, just you !

Thank you Moos for all this information about Zeca. I had contact with him in some e-mails till he disappears. I also wanted to visit him back in 2008 but I canceled my trip because of the dengue epedemic in Rio in 2008 and after this it was too late.
I also can`t understand why Luiz didn`t believe you. In his last post at Loronix Zeca speaks of health problems and his recent mail to you is in his own writing style and is 100% from him.
I just can`t understand, why he didn`t made a goodbye post on his blog perhaps with a link to the great orfaostoloronix website.
This website is like a time machine five years back bringing all the Loronix posts again in chronological order. It is as much work as Zeca done five years before and we have to thank for this great site.

I'm sure I speak for everyone who visits this blog when I wish Zecalouro all good health and thank him for inspiring the peerless Global Groove. Onwards, upwards, Wilf Of Hove

Moos, thanks for the tribute. For those who do not believe Moos story, I say that it is true. Moos requested an unnecessary authorization, which I answered immediately. All Moos' texts in comments are real and from my own writing. If someone needs a better proof, I can make it.

No one feels Loronix termination more than me, something that could not continue under my personal situation at that time. Thanks for keeping Loronix alive on your minds.

Luiz

Zeca,

it is so good to hear from you again. Thank you for all the music and inspiration over the years.
I wish you the very best for the future.

Luiz,

I never heard before that the great Caetano Rodrigues has died, when did this happen? This is very sad, I like his Bossa Nova cover book book so much. He was one of the most important collectors of Brazilian music and we will all miss him.
(I noticed that the blog cblatinjazzcorner he worked with has no updates since spring).

Frank Oliver,

both Caetano Rodrigues and Carlos Braga (CB) died. Caetano died in october 2010. I put a note about this (in portuguese) in https://orfaosdoloronix.wordpress.com/2011/09/25/caetano-rodrigues/ .

CB died in 2011 but I don´t remember exactly the month.

Best regards,

I am incredibly grateful for this news. I too was gravely concerned about the Parrot and am relieved to know he is with us. Loronix was a major event and I miss it and Zeca dearly. Thank you for your update.

I was, at first, heartened by the 'news' of Zeca's 'reappearance', as I too, had correspondences with him and followed the blog in reverance.

Thought I'd love to join the 'believers' here, I find the questions of Luiz very reasonable, and the "ha, ha, ha" disdain of such reasonable doubts, troubling.

Doubt is not a bad thing. Questions are not disrespectful.

Onde esta, Zeca? Porque nao escrive ao blog do loronix?

Moos, Thank you for your blog and update on the great Zeca Louro! I am also sad for the passing of the great Caetano. Regardless if the readers believe or don't believe in Zeca's return. I for one am thankful for the music he gave us. He is like a farmer planting a seed. It is up to us to nurture and grow our appreciation for Bossa Nova and MPB. Thank you Moos and Zeca!

I just came across this, i've been wondering for years what happened to loronix. i'm so glad to know zeca didn't pass away, and i can certainly understand why he quit blogging. the demands on your time are quite high, and it's a lot of work. that being said tho, i don't think there will ever be another time like 2007 when it comes to the free availability of music.

For me too Loronix was my introduction to music blogs and especially Brazilian music in all its glory - Elis, Os Cobras, Zimbo Trio, Jacob do Bandolim... a real education.

I'm glad to hear he is alive and well, thank you for reaching out to him - he has my deepest thanks!
