Last week, when I posted Essous and Nino and read they
feel their version of El Manicero is the best African one, I
got this idea. I made a collector with 15 versions of the song.
I am sure you can come up with loads of versions I did
not use, there are so many but here are some of my favourites.

Tumbao released a cd with 25 versions about 12 years ago.
My personal manisero-favorite is Abelardo Barroso's version with Orquesta Sensacion.

I don't know the artist as the label is in Chinese or Korean. Any translations are welcome.
@Fred, your 78 is in Mandarin Chinese, sung by Li Lilian for the Shanghai Pathé record company (Baide in Chinese), which was established by an expat Frenchman around 1908, and finally expelled to Hong Kong by the Communists around 1950. The A side is definitely "Manicero"--the cut begins with an announcer giving the title of the song as "Huashengmi," which means "peanut" in Mandarin, and the first phrase of the song is just the title repeated. My Mandarin is very rudimentary, but I can hear key terms like "xiao meimei" (young girl) that suggest to me an effort to translate the original lyrics into Chinese.
That's all I've got so far, no dates or anything, but I'll keep digging. I'm willing to bet that the b side is also a Chinese cover of a Western song, but I haven't done more than listen to it yet.
