General Prince Adekunle and his Supersonic Sounds,
Awodi Nfo Ferere, Ibukun Orisun Iye Records 1976

Late post tonight, I blew a recording earlier and had to start
all over. What have we got ? This is an album by one of the
greatest juju masters. Sir Shina Peters and Segun Adewale made
their name with the band of Prince Adekunle but reached much
bigger public than their teacher did. Although less known world-
wide, Prince Adekunle's music belongs to Nigeria's very best.
Most pages state this LP is from 1975 but this label clearly says '76.

Justin Hines and the Dominoes - Jezebel,
Island 1976

This is a classic album by a group that even Bob Marley had
great admiration for. Justin Hines and the Dominoes made this
'76 album with the Black Disciples, the same group, Winston
Rodney alias Burning Spear made some records with in the same
period. Have you seen the movie 'Rockers'? It ends with the song,
this LP opens with. What a splendid film, starring some of the
greatest reggae artists as themselves. Gregory Isaacs, Robbie
Shakespeare, Dillinger, Burning Spear and Jacob Miller among others.
I found this fantastic scene at Youtube in which we see Leroy
'Horsemouth' Wallace, the famous drummer with Richard 'Dirty Harry'
Hall entering a typical disco discotheque, check out what happens.
Classic scene from a classic movie you really must have seen.

Various Artists - Lost in the Stars - The Music of Kurt Weill,
A & M 1985

In 1985 we had this pleasant surprise. I never thought I would
appreciate this type of music before it. 'Lost in the Stars' is
the name of this project in which many famous artists do an
interpretation of a Kurt Weill song. Something different for a
change. I used to spin it quite a lot in those days. We'll round
up this year, posting a mixture of styles, for now, enjoy this.

tracks;

1 Steve Weisberg - Mahagonny Songspiel
2 Sting and Dominic Muldowney - The Ballad of Mack the Knife
3 The Fowler Brothers with Stanard Ridgway - The cannon song
4 Marianne Faithful and Chris Spedding - Ballad of the soldiers wife

Al Bowlly - Al Bowlly, World Records

...and now for something competely different...

Somehow, when we come to this time of the year, I start to
play old stuff like this one by Al Bowlly. It makes me think
of the Dennis Potter TV series; 'The Singing Detective' ? I always
loved it, it is filled with this type of sound and plays back in
the days. Most of these tracks were taken from movies from the
30's and accompanied by 'Ray Noble and his Orchestra' and the
'Savoy Hotel Orpheans'. It's the music my parents danced to
when they were dating. Great nostalgic atmosphere.

tracks;

1 All I do is dream of you
2 Guilty
3 Stay on the right side of the road
4 Sweet and lovely
5 Did you ever see a dream walking ?
6 Twentieth century blues

cold but beautiful. This is a picture of my backyard from this morning.
Quite a contrast with the warm tropical atmosphere on this nice record.
It's from 1975 and I can't tell you very much about it. S.B.B. du Congo

this one 13.270 so I recon it must be from 1982 or 1983. Besides a couple

King Sunny Adé and his African Beats - Synchro Series,

Some juju for your saturdaynight. This album is a compilation
of some old favourites with new adaptions, as KSA describes it.
You'd have to see this being said in 1983 of course. Special on
this LP, to my opinion, is the instrumental version of his big
hit 'Ja fun mi'. It makes me think of the dubversions like in
reggae music, complete with delay, echoes and other sound effects.

Super Jamono de Dakar - Ndaxami, MCA

If you take a look at our Senegal section ( below left ), you'll
find that we have some albums by Super Diamono de Dakar. We also
have one by Super Jamano de Dakar. It seems to me, the band's name
was first Super Jamano, then Super Jamono and finally Super Diamono.
Looking for the release date of this album on the web, I found that
most auction-sites claim it was 1984, one page said late seventy's.
My instincts say 1979 or 1980, what do you think ?
Nice element on this LP is the use of harmonica, something I like

Chuito el de Bayamon y Johnny el Bravo -
Musica Jibara para las Navidades,
International / Fania 1978

Some time ago I got confused finding two 'Sambistas' with the name
Noël Rosa. Yesterday I got confused over two African artists both
using the name 'Papa Noël'. Isn't that strange ? Now, Noël means
Christmas and since it's december it seems appropriate to post some
music with that theme. This is Chuito, a Jibaro from Puerto Rico.
With the Orchestra of Johnny el Bravo. ( I love that name, makes me
think of the Johnny Bravo Cartoons ) Executive Producer; Jerry Masucci
