Kabaka International Guitar Band
( Led by Kabaka Opara ), Decca 1977

Goodafternoon, summer is really breaking through in the Netherlands.
Temperatures rise to far in the twenty's ( Celsius ), weather for
a little Nigerian Highlife I'd say. Check this.
I found this LP on a recordfair not so long ago, an item that does
not give us the information we'd like to find. Backsleeve just tells
us titles, a year and nothing else. Nevertheless, the music is
worth a spin, or two.

tracks;

1 Izu kamma na nneji
2 Chukwu kere mmadu
3 Chineke wetuo ekwensu
4 Mangala special

Les Bantous de la Capitale, Sonafric 1976

Somewhere during the 60's, an early member of OK Jazz, Jean Serge
Essous and Nino Malapet, also saxplayer, started up a bigband
Congolese style. Les Bantous de la Capitale, with Papa Noel,
Brazzos among others who joined Franco's Band in Kinshasa later.
Did you know the 'OK' in OK Jazz stands for Orchestre Kinois ?,
Kinois means 'from Kinshasa'. Listen to this 70's highlight
by Les Bantous de la Capitale !

Now this, dear visitors, is a special album. When Docteur Nico
came back to Tabu Ley's Afrisa in 1980, they made this LP.
Track nr. 2, 'Resurrection'is of the hand of Docteur Nico.
He is considered to be one of the best guitarists ever by many.
I must agree this is a very good record, check it yourself.

In August of 2008 I posted an album by Orchesta Revé, this one
is by the same artist but under his own name. Find the other
here . Elio Revé created a sound totally unique.
Born out of 'Son', his 'Changüi' with it's almost funky warm bass
and hypnotic rhythms is the most famous. I found some more information
on this_page.

One of my biggest idols in Congolese music is Tchico, or

aspects a killer. I wonder if you agree with me.

Mayos Muana Ngombo - Signé Eddy'Son,
Eddy'Son Consortium Mondial

Orchestral leader, saxophone player Eddy Gustave somehow always
brings out the best in artists. The sessions on Eddy'Son Consortium
Mondial draw my immediate attention when I find them. Such as this
one by Mayos, outstanding vocals. I am also exited
by the extraordinairy work of this drummer, 'Nole Ti-Paul', very
nice and tight. And of course Eddy's sax, superb like always.

Please Report Dead Links !

Good day groovers, this morning I wrote you a message

feel bad about it. I have thought it over and decided
to change it. So, from this day on only happy posts.
If a link gets blocked or a post removed, I will not
complain about it. I want to ask you to report dead
links to me and I shall simply remove them. This way
Global Groove can remain a place where you like to
come. No negative feelings, just good ones.
Sorry for using bad language and stay

Franco & le TPOK Jazz -
Editions Populaires, african 1974

I have read the most funny story, recorded in Kinshasa in 1973,
the song 'A.Z.DA' was released without much notice in Zaire. After
some time it spread across Africa and Europe. Most people thought
it was a love song but in fact it was an advertisement. A.Z.DA was
the name of a Volkswagendealer with outlets in some 6 Zairian cities.
The song goes; Vay-way Vay-Way Vay-Way, and bought all 24 members of
the band a brandnew Volkswagen.

Maria Tanase - Maria Tanase 1, Electrecord

My first contact with Lautari was when I bought the CD
'Suburban Bucharest'. It contains a mixture of old and new
Romanian music. Through that CD I got to know artists like
Romica Puceanu, of which I found this LP last year.
From one artist you come to the next, and that's how
I discovered Maria Tanase.
It can't be a coincident that I found part 2 of Maria Tanase's
CD releases recently, and last week this LP.
Some listener asked for a little pause between all that dancing
music, well this is an album to sit down with and listen.
I hope you can appreciate this rare piece of Lautari.

Anniversary REPOST

Guillermo Buitrago - Diciembre y Año Nuevo,
Discos Fuentes 1993

Part from some tracks on compilations, I do not use to post any
material from CD. This one by Guillermo Buitrago is an absolute
exeption. If I would not use it, it was impossible to post any
Buitrago. His LP's, as far as they exist at all, are not to find.
I repost this album for several reasons. It contains songs for
december and new year, well our new year at the Global Groove
starts tomorrow. Part from that, this music is so delightful, I
truely don't understand it didn't get any response. I am crazy
about these songs. When I discovered this compilation, I wept
tears of happiness. Maybe it's just me being foolish, but give
this one another chance and I'm sure you will not regret.

Ramito, El Cantor de la Montaña -

his beloved Puerto Rico. He was the most productive musician,
I just found a dicography with over 150 titles, incredible.
This is an album I found in a recordstore in Paris, I just
got back from a quick trip to France. One of our loyal visitors
invited me for his birthday party and I met some very nice people
there, sorry I left in a rush everybody, that happens.
I could not resist going to that great Paris recordshop,
and want to thank the chief there, let's call him 'F'.
Thanks 'F' for helping me find this fantastic Jibara
